Newsletter Strategy 2.0

Newsletter Strategy 2.0 is a three-day workshop for newsrooms who are ready to supercharge their newsletter growth. We’ll give you the resources to create better content, increase engagement with readers, and drive more revenue from newsletters.

June 16-18, 2025 - Copenhagen

After a huge success in 2022, we're bringing Dan Oshinsky back to Copenhagen for an exclusive workshop.

Last time, we had a full house and a waiting list, so don't wait too long to sign up!

So you’ve launched a few newsletters for your newsroom. You’re seeing some success — but you know you can do better. You’re reading stories about other news organizations that are seeing incredible results from email. They’re growing fast, making money, and using newsletters to fuel their growth.

What do they know that you don’t?

Newsletter Strategy 2.0 is a three-day workshop for newsrooms who are ready to supercharge their newsletter program. You’ll leave the workshop with the resources to create better content, grow your audience, increase engagement with readers, and drive more revenue from email.

The workshop will be conducted by Dan Oshinsky, the former Director of Newsletters at both BuzzFeed and The New Yorker, who now works with dozens of newsrooms around the world on email and revenue strategy through his consultancy, Inbox Collective.

He also writes a weekly email all about the world of email.

Over the course of three days, you’ll work with Dan to:

  • Learn the tactics that best-in-class newsrooms use to create new newsletters

  • Conduct audience research to build newsletters that resonate with your audience

  • Build out strategies to monetize your list, including tactics convert more email subscribers to paying supporters, members, or donors

  • Improve the way you use email automations to convert and retain subscribers

  • Identify opportunities to deepen engagement with readers

1-1

Growth Audit

As part of the course fee, Dan will also prepare a custom growth audit for each of the participating media outlets, identifying unique ways your organization can grow your email list. Dan will also make 1-1 time to review the audit results with you during the workshop.

Email can and should be an engine for growth for your newsroom. We’ll give you the strategies, tactics, and tools to build your best email strategy.

This is a new and improved version of the unique course that Dan Oshinsky developed in 2022 in collaboration with Medietrends, a leading Danish organization that specializes in trainings and workshops for journalists.

What should I know about the workshop?

The workshop will be held entirely in English.

Dan will make several presentations on email strategy over the three days, and will also lead some group brainstorms and work sessions. He will also reach out in advance to review some of your existing email strategy so he can make recommendations on specific best practices for your newsroom.

As post-workshop work, you will be given a 60+ question checklist to further improve your email strategy.

Your media outlet will also receive a free, personalized Growth Audit from Dan Oshinsky afterward.

You’ll become part of an international newsletter network. Last time, we had prominent newsletter editors and writers from major media outlets in Denmark, the Netherlands, England, Germany, and Sweden.

Who might benefit from this workshop?

You will get the most out of this workshop if you work for a news organization on newsletters and email strategy or audience development, and if your newsroom is already using email to engage with readers and drive revenue. The workshop will help give you the tools to take your email strategy to the next level, and will touch on both editorial newsletters and email marketing to drive reader revenue or ad revenue.
